Maira is a UK based stage designer working in theatre and opera. She trained at Central School Of Speech & Drama. Born in Greece she has found a second home in London where she is based for the last 20 years.

Her design of Macbeth was selected to represent her country of origin at the international exhibition of scenography Prague Quadrennial in 2019.

Forthcoming projects include Midsummer Night’s Dream for the English Theatre Of Vienna, Mary Stuart at the Kakogiannis Institute in Athens and readopting Romeo & Juliet for the Globe Shakespeare Festival in Neuss. During Covid-19 all projects have been postponed. During these uncertain times for theatre Maira teamed up with Theatre Lab Company - who is an associate designer - and a selection of artists, to create two hander plays and explore how and where could be safely shown and keep theatre alive.

Her theatre designs credits include: All Wrapped Up for Oily Cart Theatre Company, a show for under fives including those with a range of additional support needs; Romeo & Juliet at Lovrijenac Fortress / Dubrovnik; Salvadores Dei at the ancient amphitheatre of Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Acropolis - Athens. The acclaimed show has been touring many years in various venues around Greece including Megaro Mousikis and Michalis Kakogiannis; Jamaica Inn  (Tabard Theatre); From The Silence Of The Display Cases To Living Theatrical Voices, a collaboration of Benaki Museum with the National Theatre Of Greece – four different projects (Erofilis Needlework, Twelve Heads Of Garlic and Fifteen Onions, What The Old Man Said, The Initiation Of Neoptolemos), which exhibits of various collections in the museum provided the spark for a dramatised work; Dance With the Devil (Lilian Baylis Studio-Sadlers Wells); Salome (Hoxton Hall); Dea a new trilogy written and directed by Edward Bond (Secombe Theatre); Macbeth (National Theatre Of Northern Greece - nominated for best set & costume design); Sweet Bird Of Youth (Alma Theatre -Athens); I’m a Minger (Belgrade Theatre & National Tour); Medea, Lysistrata (Riverside studios); Antigone (Riverside studios & International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama, Cyprus); Ghost (Stavros Tou Notou –Athens); The Three Princesses Who Sung and Danced (National Theatre Of Cyprus - THOC); Guernica (National Theatre Of Greece); Chutney (Greenwich & Docklands Festival & International Tour); Velvet Scratch (Edinburgh, Prague, Athens & New York Festivals - Voted Best Show at Prague International Fringe Festival); Fresh Meat, Told You So (Courtyard Theatre).

Designs For Opera include: Alchina (Ryedale Festival & Scotland); Merry Widow (Ryedale Festival & Wiltons Music Hall); Xerxes (Hampstead Garden Opera) Albert Herring (Hampstead Garden Opera - nominated for an Off West End award for Best Opera), Princess Ida (Finborough Theatre).

Maira is a visiting lecturer at the Foundation Course of Camberwell Arts University and has designed projects for Drama Colleges, The Rimers Of Eldritch, Live Like Pigs ( The Royal Central School Of Speech & Drama); Missing, Parlour Song, Dying City, Like A Fishbone

(Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts) all in collaboration with the MA Theatre Directing Students; The House Of Bernarda Alba (Court Theatre Training Company);

In the film industry Maira has worked with directors Kenneth Branagh, Rupert Sanders, Guy Ritchie, Tim Burton, Ridley Scott etc, as a set dresser and maker on their films: Cinderella, Snow White and the Huntsman, Sherlock Holmes, Sweeny Todd, The Duchess, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus (all Pinewood Studios); Robin Hood (Shepperton Studios) The Other Boleyn Girl (Elstree Studios).

She designed Moments in Theatre, two documentaries based on Eumenides and Friedrich Schiller for the national German and Greek television.

She worked on the props department at the Opening & Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games – Athens 2004.
